Info

The PE 02 level course of Physical Education encompasses the development of muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. It is concentrated on building a foundation of life-long activities, strategies and fitness components. Physical Education activities include concepts in fitness, swimming, net games, team games and cooperative/ultimate games. This is an accelerated course. Students will be expected to participate outdoors and indoors throughout the program.  This is the basic PE2 program. The following programs are only offered during the course of a typical school year: Fitness for Life, Lifeguarding, Project Adventure, or Weight Training.

This Physical Education 2 (PE02) offering is open to Students entering or exiting 11th grade only, who cannot fit the required PE 2 class into their regular school schedule in their upcoming Junior/Senior year. This course is only available to Newtown High School students.

Prerequisite's: (It is your responsibility to ensure you meet these requirements prior to enrolling)

  • Students must have already successfully completed PE 1.

  • You must have completed 10th grade or 11th grade (entering or exiting 11th).

Registration closes June 24, 2026. Enrollment is limited; on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes are dependent upon registration and may be cancelled with little notice due to low enrollment.

Things to Consider:

  • Students must commit to the full program hours, otherwise credit is not issued.

  • Students are expected to be dressed appropriately and must be ready to participate. Participation is a part of the grade.

  • All Newtown Board of Education Policies, as outlined in the Student Handbook should be followed.

  • If asked to leave the program by Newtown Continuing Education due to disciplinary reasons, course credit will not be issued and tuition is forfeited.

  • Because a commitment is needed to run the course, cancellation without 2-weeks’ notice is not refunded. Refunds cannot be issued for situations out of our control.

  • A cancellation fee ($50) with 2 weeks’ notice is assessed. If you enroll without meeting the prerequisites, the cancellation fee is still assessed.

  • A half credit is issued upon successful completion.

  • Absences will not be permitted. One absence is a loss of credit. Two tardies is equal to one absence. A tardy longer than 15-minutes is equal to an absence.
